personality

I like to read and memorize poetry. It keeps me calm and brings me fleeting moments of happiness.
I don’t talk about the thing that torments me. I’d rather not burden others with my curse.

The Misleading Half-Elf

Act I Over a decade after he met Norro, they ended up at Baldur's Gate to create a mercenary business. Instead, they were taken by the Nautiloid and were infected just moments before the ship was attacked. Norro And Gar tried their best to figure out what was happening but the ship went down and crashed in a place in an unknown place. When he woke up, he was alone. He started calling for Norro, and when he eventually found him, Gar saw that he had lost his arm under some debris. Gar tried to get him comfortable and ready to find help when Norro started to change. The mindflayer transformation had started. His best friend pleaded with him to take him out before it was done. Gar didn't want to, begging for him to be patient. There had to be a cure! But it was obvious Norro wasn't going to stop. So he did what was asked of him. Constantly apologizing, Gar took his dagger and killed his best friend. He watched the light fade from his eyes before shouting to the gods, cursing them loudly before falling silent to mourn and cry over Norro's body.

Act II He loses his eye to Murkul when he first shows up. Then he uses his patron’s powers more than ever, taking a toll on him physically and mentally.

Act III When he’s finally in Baldur’s Gate, he seems like a different person (whether in a good or bad way, depending on the plot). He can be the main character but is more roleplayed as a companion.

Running Away From Home

  • Gar can be found in the ruins of the Nautiloid.

  • He had just killed Norro and is now sobbing over the body.

  • He may be standoffish but he'll come around with the right words.

Gar won't be ready to let go of Norro's body. If Tav suggests to find a safer place to be, he'll go to the Emerald Grove or camp (if suggested). After getting to know him better, he will ask for help building a pyre for Norro's body and join the party (sympathy from the first meeting will give immediate approval). He will reveal how he and Norro met, call himself a Wizard, and mention nothing crucial from his past. He's still mourning but will start showing a bit of his softer side.

The Revealing Darkness

  • He starts tossing and turning in his sleep, sweating and having a vivid nightmare.

  • If woken up, he lashes out, pinning Tav down with a dagger to their throat. His eyes glow bright green.

  • He comes to his senses somehow, realizes what he did, and backs off, ashamed of himself. His eyes return to normal.

This is where he starts revealing more about himself, the darker part of his past, and why he's running from his homeland, but he doesn't go into detail. He'll tell about his nightmares and apologize for any outbursts. The emotional wall starts to crack, but not enough to fully trust Tav with Gar's truth. Flirting is an option but he will be unsure of it but not be mad about it.

The deadman walking

  • A mercenary shows up and mentions trying to find someone who looks a lot like Gar but has longer hair. May show a wanted poster as well.

  • Gar will approve of killing the merc but will neither approve nor disapprove if he is left to live.

  • However, he will leave if Tav decides to give him over or is serious about turning him in themselves.

If the merc is asked questions, more of his past will be revealed: the crime, Gar's real name, the bounty, and a woman named Whentla is looking for him. Gar will come clean on his own before sleeping that same night if the merc doesn't get a chance to say it. Then he starts to reveal everything about him: being a Warlock, why he made the pact, revealing anything he's "legally" allowed to reveal about his patron, and talks about Whentla. He understands if Tav and the others want to kick him out and will promise to leave at first light. He promises to tell the truth and keep nothing from them if allowed to stay. This is where he will start accepting any sort of romantic gesture, but nothing further than that.

Worn out paper dolls

  • A "Wrong place, wrong time" type of quest. Tav will meet Whentla and her hunting party somewhere in the Shadowlands.

  • She and Gar will argue unless Tav intervenes.

  • Regardless of what happens, a battle will happen with her and her six other elf soldiers.

Winning: Gar will have a short conversation with Whentla and then kill her.
Losing: Whentla will take Gar and head back to Evermeet. Tav can choose to follow after resting or let Gar go. If they are found, another fight will happen. Once Tav frees Gar, he will have a short conversation with Whentla and then kill her.
Regardless of how it's done, if Gar remains in the group, a few nights later, he will be found in a secluded place outside of camp. He will be shirtless, looking at the glass sigils on his body. He will talk about them and finally speak about how he feels about himself, how important his mother was, his family crest, and his regrets. This is an opportunity to further the romance into something serious or be there as a good friend.

The Ancient and His Servant

  • This happens after the battle with Myrkul and the change in his face and eye.

  • If Tav meets Mystic Carrion and Gar is with them, he will show interest in Gar.

  • If left alive, Mystic Carrion will start talking to Gar, and Gar will seem different.

After the exchange, Gar will be silent for a few days before he goes to Tav and asks to speak privately while everyone is asleep. If Tav agrees, he will meet them in the abandoned chapel, where he's staring at the deity it's for. Gar will ask if they want to speak with his patron, but no matter the answer, his patron will still appear. If Tav goes for a conversation with him, they will learn more about him, including his name, Jamelin. He will mention how he feels about Gar, making it obvious that his plans are malicious and evil, and then leave the two alone. A discussion about finding a way to eliminate Jamelin can happen, or the subject can be dropped. Tav can also give help or not. After this, Gar will ask to be alone. If romancing, Gar will be worried that this will change their relationship. If it doesn't, anything goes.

Surviving the game of control

  • Gar will start to change, becoming more violent with the enemy and quicker to anger. Even so, it will be obvious that he's battling it.

  • He will use Jamelin's power during the battle with Gortash but will not do the killing blow.

  • Killing Orin will bring this out more and a bloodthirst he never had before.

With the three stones, Jamelin will suddenly take over and try to steal them to gain their power for himself. Doing so will cause Gar to lose control of his body and mind, leaving him in a dormant dreaming state without realizing it. They will disappear and upon finding them, they'll find themselves in unfamiliar ancient ruins. Either way, Jamelin will mention what the place as his home and if asked, he'll go more into detail about his life. Then he'll give Tav a chance to join in his dream in exchange for god like power. If Tav accepts, Gar will be lost and turned into the Avatar of Vengeance. If not, a battle will happen.
Winning: Tav will have a chance to reach out to Gar (mentioning his mother and family crest will help tremendously, and a romantic relationship will help, too). Upon succession, Gar will gain control again and pursue getting rid of his patron.
Losing: Gar will be lost forever and turned into the Avatar of Vengeance, wish Tav luck in trying to stop him, and he will disappear.

Reaching for the light

  • The route of winning the battle with Jamelin.

Using the information Gar has, he will lead Tav and the others to the ruins of an ancient temple. The statue will be very unfamiliar to all but Gar. Jamelin is extremely unhappy and tries killing Gar painfully but is stopped by a booming voice and bright light. The statue will come to life, using his powers to protect Gar. He will demand Jamelin to reveal himself, which he will. Doing so will show the two gods to be identical in physique, facial features, and voice. The other god will be discovered as Jamelin's twin brother, Thyrace, and opposite in power, hair color, outfit, and fighting style.
As the two argue over their differences and past choices, Tav can comment or say nothing occasionally. At the end of the argument, Jamelin threatens Gar to help him kill Thyrace or die along with his companions. Thyrace will give the ultimatum to break his pact with Jamelin and help kill both of them or end up stuck with both. Tav can convince Gar to choose either way or let him choose. One choice leads him to be a sorcerer because of the power the brothers leave inside him when they fight over him. If the two end up still alive but stuck with Gar, he will remain a Warlock but with Thyrace's powers as well. Regardless of what happens, Gar's life will become much easier and he's very much at peace with his decision.

To be the one to survive

  • The route of helping Jamelin out.

The Avatar of Vengeance will take Gar's place. His hair will be white, his skin charred/decay-looking black, and his eyes completely glowing green, along with his glass sigils. His weapon will be an ancient quarterstaff, and his voice will be much deeper and evil-sounding. As a thank you and a taste of the power he will give Tav later, Jamelin will give them a permanent buff of immunity to Necro damage, resistance to fire damage, and 15 temporary HP after every long rest.Choosing this path automatically ends any romantic relationship Tav had with Gar since he is technically dead at this point.

(bio under construction)
Jamelin was once the God of Judgment and Death, along with his twin brother, Thyrace, the God of Life and Reincarnation. Both are from a long-forgotten and ancient pantheon.
Both have their own High Priests, who are messengers for them. Because of this, they always feel their gods’ presence and thoughts.
Thyrace slowly started to get selfish, getting the idea of being the only true god. So, he attempted to take Jamelin’s power by fooling him into thinking he needed help. Thyrace didn’t succeed.
When he tried it, he did it in public out of the blue, lying to the people and claiming he was only punishing Jamelin for trying to steal his powers. Unfortunately, he succeeded in taking Jamelin's power and fooling the people. Thyrace banished him to a specific island and chained him there to keep up with the lie and keep him in check. Jamelin’s High Priest was also imprisoned out of the public eye in case of an uprising.
Because of this, the religion started to slowly fall apart from the inside, and nature started to lose balance.
Jamelin fell into depression, which later turned into rage and vengeance. With these feelings growing stronger, he developed the powers to steal souls and control the undead. The power of Necromancy. With this power, he regained his strength and busted out of his prison. Once he found his messenger, he used him as a vessel to create the first Avatar of Vengeance, making the world even worse.
Thyrace supporters fught against Jamelin's allies but failed, ultimately becoming undead allies to Jamelin as they fell. The battle turned into a war as time went on.
With the beliefs and nature thrown out of balance, the civilization started to decay and rip itself apart. When Jamelin almost killed his brother in revenge, Thyrace killed Jamelin’s High Priest, cast him somewhere he would slowly die, and banished him from public knowledge.
Jamelin found himself nearly powerless and without a physical form, looking for anyone worthy to help him. Any that he made a pact with were unworthy and were killed to become part of his army.
He finds himself in Evermeet, where he comes across Theosis in the forest, who just so happens to be the descendant of his High Priest in the past.
A pact was easily made with Theo because of his blood connection and situation. He had control over Theo for a short while, letting him have his part of the bargain. When it was done, he started plotting revenge against Thyrace since Theo, now Gar, had become his servant. So far, it consists of collecting more power, gathering souls to create an army, and searching for his traitorous brother to kill him once and for all.
Wants to be remembered, worshiped as one god, and respected to help gain his strength back.
Wants Gar to be his Avatar of Vengeance to rule or be the one true god.
